SunDo Retreat Center, 1347 Kitchel Hill Road, Barnet, VT
SunDo Retreat Center, 1347 Kitchel Hill Road, Barnet, VT
Experience the joy and wonder of balanced breathing amidst the deep quiet of winter in Vermont. As we turn inward to explore our inner-most self, we discover how SunDo practice supports profound healing and transformation. Blending breath meditation and Taoist yoga postures, we come to appreciate how this practice brings the body, heart and mind into harmony while sharpening our awareness of the natural environment.
During the SunDo Winter Retreat, a full schedule of sitting meditation, SunDo practice, bowing meditation and service work is offered. In addition to experiencing an intensive retreat, guests may help with cooking meals, tending wood fires and general upkeep of the buildings.
Participation is flexible, however, and you are free to take time for winter hiking to enjoy the beautiful woodlands of the SunDo Retreat Center. |
All levels of practice are welcome. SunDo's Retreat Center is conveniently located only 5 miles south of St. Johnsbury, Vermont in the rural town of Barnet. The Center is situated on 72 acres of land, partly open fields surrounded by woodland and forest trails. There is a woodburning stove in the dining hall and meditation hall.

accommodations & travel
Five or three-day retreats start at 4 PM on the first day. Arrival time is flexible up until 8 PM that evening. If you need to arrive late or leave early on a certain day, please contact us. Travel from Burlington, VT, Windsor Locks, CT (Bradley Airport) and Boston, MA is possible by plane. Several bus stops are also located along the I-91 corridor.
The Sundo Retreat center has a variety of buildings for lodging. There is a women’s only mobile home which has a bathroom, kitchen, and heat and has space for 4 people to sleep. Attendees must bring their own bedding, aka sleeping bag and pillow, air mattress etc… Additionally there is a newly built dining hall and lounge building which has two bathrooms and will have 3 cots available, (again attendees must bring their own blankets and pillows.)
The weather for this part of Vermont will be cold and possibly snowy. It is recommended to bring waterproof boots, snow pants, a flashlight or headlamp, waterproof jacket or poncho, towels and toiletries. Meditation cushions are not required, but welcome, if you'd like to bring your own.
The retreat experience is one where we are a community and the price of the retreat reflects that there is a communal aspect to things. For example while the food is provided we ask each attendee to help out in preparing one of the meals. In addition, we ask that guests help with general cleaning of their sleeping space on the last day of the retreat.
