SunDo Retreat Center, 1347 Kitchel Hill Road, Barnet, VT
Experience the joy and wonder of balanced breathing amidst the deep quiet of winter in Vermont. As we turn inward to explore our inner-most self, we discover how SunDo practice supports profound healing and transformation. Blending breath meditation and Taoist yoga postures, we come to appreciate how this practice brings the body, heart and mind into harmony while sharpening our awareness of the natural environment.
During the SunDo Winter Retreat, a full schedule of sitting meditation, SunDo practice, bowing meditation and service work is offered. In addition to experiencing an intensive retreat, guests may help with cooking meals, tending wood fires and general upkeep of the buildings.
Participation is flexible, however, and you are free to take time for winter hiking to enjoy the beautiful woodlands of the SunDo Retreat Center. |
All levels of practice are welcome. SunDo's Retreat Center is conveniently located only 5 miles south of St. Johnsbury, Vermont in the rural town of Barnet. The Center is situated on 72 acres of land, partly open fields surrounded by woodland and forest trails. There is a woodburning stove in the dining hall and meditation hall.
Please see more information below on accommodations.

The Sundo Retreat center has a variety of buildings for lodging. There is a women-only mobile home which has a bathroom, kitchen, heat and a large one-room dorm space. Our meditation hall serves as a men's dorm at night with shelves that serve as storage space for bedding during the day. Additionally there are bathrooms/showers and cots available in the main building. Tenting sites are also available. Guests must bring their own towels, sheets, blankets and pillows if possible. If traveling light, please contact us to secure bedding, mats or tents and sleeping bags.
It is recommended to bring waterproof boots, extra socks, snow pants (in winter), a flashlight or headlamp, waterproof jacket or poncho, towels and toiletries. Meditation cushions are not required, but welcome if you'd like to bring one. Bathing suits are optional for swimming in the nearby brook during warmer months.
The retreat experience is one where we are a community and the price of the retreat reflects that there is a communal aspect to things. For example while the food is provided we ask each attendee to help out in preparing one of the meals. In addition, we ask that guests help with general cleaning of their sleeping space on the last day of the retreat.
