The SunDo Retreat Center in Vermont has everything an outdoors person could want in Autumn — crisp, cool mornings with hot tea or coffee, scenic views of the changing foliage, hiking trails in maple tree forests and a roaring campfire under the stars. Sight-seeing trips help you realize the distinct character of the region such as a visit to Maple Grove Farms Museum for maple sugaring.

During the 2021 Fall Retreat, you can experience a relaxing yet immersive weekend living close to nature at the SunDo Retreat Center in the beautiful woodlands of Vermont's Northeast Kingdom. This is a special Friday to Monday arts retreat where we will focus on Taoist healing modalities and the Korean art of Dancheong painting.

Led by teachers, Andrew Tanner and Christine Ucich, the Fall Retreat offers three days of
inspiring, invigorating and  entertaining programming to get us into the spirit of building community and living a more mindful, healthy life. Learn more about Andrew and Christine below in Meet the Teachers section...

WORKSHOPS

ACUPRESSURE FOR SELF-HEALING
Restore the flow of energy throughout the body by pressing a series of 10 different acupressure points used in Taoist healing practices like SunDo and Dahn Yoga. You will experience many benefits from this self-healing acupressure sequence such as stress relief, relaxation and a more positive mood which then induces physical healing.

TURNING POINTS: UNDERSTANDING OUR MIND IN THE LABYRINTH
Spend the morning walking SunDo's forest labyrinth  to explore turning points along its winding path. During your walk, you may notice that these turning points seem similar to emotional shifts needed to move beyond obstacles in your life. In this workshop, we use the labyrinth as a tool for discovering more flexible feeling and thinking.

BOWING MEDITATION
As we practice 103 rounds of SunDo Big Bows, we improve our breathing, absorb the yin energy of the fall season, and become aligned with the rhythm of the universe.
SACRED WATERS CEREMONY
Join us at the brook as we send healing energy and thoughts to the water by singing songs and acknowledging the great gift that water is in our lives.
SUNDO BREATHWORK
Making the breath smooth, deep and rhythmic has a profound effect on the body and mind. During morning practice, we use this breathing as a focus for meditation.

DANCHEONG PAINTING: SYMBOLS OF LIFE
Travel to Korea and see the colorful painting of Dancheong decorating the pagodas and temples. The paintings are not only there to please the eye, they also protect the soft wood from weathering.

In part one of this workshop, view the imagery used in this style to learn its symbolic meaning and then create your own symmetrical design. In part two, transfer your design for painting in five vivid colors of Dancheong.
